Anastan Forte is a drug that is useful for relieving pain, such as joint pain , toothache, headache, pain after surgery, and menstrual pain. This drug can also relieve symptoms of inflammation, such as heat, redness, and swelling.

Anastan Forte contains the active ingredient mefenamic acid. This drug works by inhibiting an enzyme that plays a role in the formation of prostaglandins, which are substances that trigger symptoms of inflammation and pain. Prostaglandins are usually produced when there is injury or damage to body tissues.

Anastan Forte for pregnant and lactating women Category C:  Animal studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus, but there have been no controlled studies in pregnant women. The drug should only be used if the benefit obtained outweighs the risk to the fetus. In the 3rd trimester of pregnancy, the category becomes Category D:  There is evidence that the ingredients of the drug pose a risk to the human fetus, but the benefit may outweigh the risk, for example for deal with life-threatening situations.

Anastan Forte is absorbed into breast milk. If you are breastfeeding, do not use this medication without consulting your doctor first.

Precautions Before Taking Anastan Forte

Anastan Forte must be used by prescription. There are several things to consider before taking this drug, including:

  • Do not take Anastan Forte if you have an allergy to this medicine or  to other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs  , such as aspirin or ibuprofen.
  • Do not take Anastan Forte if you are suffering from gastrointestinal bleeding, colitis,  severe heart failure  , severe kidney failure, severe  liver failure  , or have recently had heart bypass surgery .
  • Tell your doctor if you have ever had asthma,  hypertension , diabetes, blocked arteries,  kidney disease, liver  disease, heart disease , stroke, or  peptic ulcer .
  • Do not drive a vehicle or do activities that require alertness after taking Anastan Forte, because this drug may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some people.
  • Do not consume alcoholic beverages while undergoing treatment with Anastan Forte because it will increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding .
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medications, including supplements and herbal products, to anticipate drug interactions.
  • See a doctor immediately if you experience an allergic reaction to the drug or an overdose after taking Anastan Forte.

Dosage and Rules for Use of Anastan Forte

The dosage of Anastan Forte for pain relief in adults and children over the age of 14 is 500 mg, 3 times a day.

How to Take Anastan Forte Properly

Always follow the doctor's recommendations and read the information on the drug packaging before taking Anastan Forte. It is important to remember, the mefenamic acid in Anastan Forte should not be used for more than 7 days, unless directed by a doctor.

Anastan Forte can be taken after meals. Swallow the medicine with the help of water. If you forget to take this drug, consume it immediately if it is not near the next schedule. If it is close, ignore the missed dose and do not double the next dose.

Store Anastan Forte at room temperature, in a dry place and away from direct sunlight. Keep this medicine out of reach of children.

Anastan Forte Interactions with Other Drugs

Considering that Anastan Forte contains mefenamic acid, interactions that can occur when this drug is used with certain drugs are:

  • Increased risk of Anastan Forte side effects when used with other NSAIDs, such as aspirin
  • Increased risk of bleeding when used with SSRI antidepressants , anticoagulants , NSAIDs or corticosteroids.
  • Increased risk of kidney damage if used with ciclosporin or tacrolimus
  • Decreased effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs, such as ACE inhibitors , ARBs , or beta blockers
  • Decreased effectiveness of diuretic drugs, such as furosemide or hydrochlorothiazide
  • Increased risk of side effects of lithium , methotrexate, and digoxin

Side Effects and Dangers of Anastan Forte

Side effects that may arise after taking drugs containing mefenamic acid include abdominal pain, heartburn , constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, nausea, or vomiting.

Consult a doctor if these side effects do not improve or get worse. Immediately see a doctor if you experience a drug allergic reaction or serious side effects after taking Anastan Forte, such as fever, aches, or fatigue.

In addition, see a doctor immediately if you have bloody bowel movements , coughing up blood, or vomiting with dregs that look like coffee grounds, yellowish skin and eyes ( jaundice ), rarely urinating or very little urine coming out, swelling in the legs and feet , or drastic weight gain.
